With 3% of global carbon emissions originating from shipping, we as a business and the shipping industry as a whole have a responsibility to improve and harness efficiencies among current freight technologies, while spurring on technologies for the future.

At NORDEN we see it as our responsibility to take part in moving this transition forward have ambitious aspirations and help our customers decarbonising their supply chains.

We offer a series of low emission freight solutions such as carbon insetting, biofuel and emission consultancy to our customers, in order to help them decarbonise their supply chains.

Eliminating worst polluting vessels

Co2-based hull cleanings

Investing in fuel transparency

Our environmental priorities

Efficient operations of our vessels

Efficient operations of vessels is an integral part of our operator business model and we monitor the vessel’s fuel efficiency using the EEOI measure. On NORDEN’s owned and operated vessels, we continuously monitor fuel efficiency, determining optimal speeds and route planning.

By distinguishing between operated and chartered-out voyages, we can identify the impact of our efforts, while still taking responsibility for all tonnage that we deliver to our customers by providing EEOI based measures on all assets.

Our ambition:
- 2% decrease in EEOI in 2023, relative to 2022 baseline
- Net zero by 2050

Decreasing value chain emissions

As part of our aspiration to decarbonise our customers’ supply chains, NORDEN aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.

This is aligned with the climate ambitions outlined by the Danish government’s climate partnership with the Danish maritime sector of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050.

Our ambition:
- Reduce scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions to net zero by 2050

Our six climate commitments

Carbon emissions transparency

NORDEN provides a carbon emissions estimate prior to every journey, and a post-voyage emissions report. Transparency over emissions allows our customers to make decisions on freight transport based not just on price and date but on environmental impact too.

Greener shipping solutions

NORDEN is developing a number of greener shipping solutions for our customers. These range from using advanced analytics for increased vessel efficiency, to low emissions biofuel sailings.

Reduction in CO2

In the short-term, NORDEN is committed to reducing carbon emissions in line with the targets and downward trajectory set by Sea Cargo Charter.

Zero-emission vessels from 2030

NORDEN commits to only ordering new vessels with the latest zero-emission technology from 2030 at the latest, in order to meet our decarbonisation goal.

Net-zero emissions by 2050

Achieving net-zero by 2050 requires a shift to new zero-carbon fuels and technologies in shipping. We are working with Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, on developing these solutions.

Net zero office operations by 2027

Based on an internal ambition defined by employees in 2022, three internal focus areas have been put forward: Green buildings, procurement and transportation. This includes a focus on food waste, corporate travel and employee commute options.
